Tiny Tea Dispatch #001
Going against the grain, this year it’s Autumn that’s the season of change. The GF and I moved in together, followed by the addition of a dog and I changed jobs (if you know how the past year and a half went, this comes as no surprise). So to this all prompted something new for the newsletter as well.
Happy November everyone, welcome to the first issue of the Tiny Tea Dispatch!
What’s up with you fine people? It’s been a hell of year, hasn’t it? I originally planned to do this newsletter in September, then October but things kept shifting around me. So here we are now. I wouldn’t have imagined 2016 would keep throwing shit like an angry monkey but there it is.
For me personally, this year has had some nice offshoots (see the intro) but the stress of work and family issues have been so manifest the last couple of years that it’s been very hard to find enjoyment.
After a lot of procrastination, I finally took 1 step towards some kind of mental relief at least: shopping around for a shrink. At the very least, I’m hoping to unburden myself (and those around me) of the stress life has been handing me. I have one appointment next week, we’ll see how that goes.
On the artistic side of life, new comics are coming, eventually. With everything that’s been going on, the fixed schedule started to erode and went from weekly to monthly to ‘undefined’. I still have ideas, I’m still sketching, I just have to take the time I need to make new things. I recently bought a bunch of refillable pens that I’m really enjoying. They’re what I used to make the header and small illustrations in this letter.
Hang in there with me, we still have much to do.

October is also the month of #inktober, which I celebrated by doing a drawing a day. The 31 days form a short story about a space explorer finding their death on strange worlds.
~~ Reading ~~
It had been years since I set foot into it but thanks to a couple of visits from a friend, I got to peruse the walls of ‘The English Book Shop’ in Ghent again. I’d forgotten how much is in that small space. I never even saw how much sci-fi they had until now! It’s a treasure trove of both classic and obscure yellowing, old paperbacks. I wish I’d taken a few pictures to show you the best covers.
~~ Watching ~~
Toco Toco TV
As per the YouTube channel description, it’s a program where Japanese artists and creators introduce places in Japan that inspire them.
Manben
A documentary series showing a range of Japanese Manga artists at work, with director’s commentary. It’s a really interesting look at the process of creation.
