Tiny Tea Dispatch #014
Stay inside, stay safe
Hoo boy, what is happening people? Are you doing alright? Are you getting tired of every company and ‘influencer’ on social media telling you about this imaginary ‘free time’ you now supposedly have gained? Even though you still hustle pretty much 16 hours a day with the (remote) job/panic about losing said job ànd taking care of the necessary side-activities (like herding your kids or dogs) ànd keeping tabs on people that need help ànd worrying about your partner/friend/family member worrying about losing their job/health/life ànd worrying about the huge swaths of society that are not being cared for or taken into account ànd your anxiety making it difficult to focus or even do some of that cleaning that desperately needs to happen?
No no, I’m fine. Doing grrrreat. I’m enjoying walking the dog a lot more when there are fewer people outside. Weekends are also a lot nicer now that there is a bit of sun shining on my my tiny back-yard.
~~ Garden ~~
Most of the pepper plants are steadily growing. I had to add some support to keep them from falling over. It’ll be time soon to put them in bigger pots and set them outside during the day.
~~ Ink well ~~
We’ve got some new additions since last time: a Parker 17, a Mabie Todd Blackbird, and this Bayard 448 (pictured above).
There are also a couple more are stuck in the post. I’m lucky this hobby doesn’t have to be massively expensive, well, I picked up a lot of pens in 3 months. I’ll sell off a couple once things settle down a bit. On the other hand, it’s been fun writing different things with different pens. I also still need to send out a few cards/letters.
~~ Writing ~~
As you know, I’ve been writing bits and pieces about an imaginary space traveler. This week/month has been no exception. You can find this week’s dispatches here:

In other writing news: my aunt wrote a book about the many faces of partner violence (physical as well as mental. An important book, since it impacts a lot of people and is often invisible to the outside world, even to close family and friends. Especially in these times, with people remaining inside the home more than usual, there is also an increas in domestic violence. The book is called “Als liefde overleven wordt: de vele gezichten van partnergeweld” and only available in Dutch at the moment. You can buy it online here:
~~ Making ~~
I’ve also been doing a bit of drawing. This always ends up on Instagram but I’ve also collected them on my blog: https://rembo.me/unsorted/covidink-challenge/
And for those of you interested in reading some of my old school work, I’ve put up every book of comics I made in the last 7 years to download and read for free.
~~ Seen ~~
Picard is finished. It wasn’t all that great but I still enjoyed seeing the captain and Data again.
Other than that, staying in the Star Trek vibe, Mikey had a nice video and then another one about Star Trek history to share. Key concept to take away from it: No one know what they’re doing
~~ Final say ~~
It’s a bit of a short letter this month but you know how it is, schedules and minds with being a bit out of whack and all that. I hope you are in good health and are handling the impact of this whole situation okay. Even if you are not, with all things in life, I think it’s important to remember that this is temporary (even if the effects can be long-lasting) and there are some moment of hopes to be found in the shifts they cause.
In that respect, these are some actions I wish the general population would pick up after this:
- Vote for the people/party who will not cut into welfare and health funding (not the ones who are now just saying they will)
- Show your gratitude to the health care workers, teachers and especially the folks who keep the food chain going (eg. transportation workers, people in food industry, people restocking groceries, behind the till, …) by telling them/being kinder/more respectful to them, instead of clapping or hanging a white sheet up or voting for parties who don’t respect them
- When this has calmed down some, visit a place in your town/country you haven’t been to before. Here is some inspiration: https://www.atlasobscura.com/things-to-do/belgium/places
Stay well everyone and stay safe.
