Tiny Tea Dispatch #018
Wecome to [checks notes…] August!
Wait… that doesn’t sound right…
It’s only been a month? Really?
Alright then…
The peppers are doing a good job ripening. Soon I’ll have a dozen Helix Nebula peppers to harvest, a handful of Jalapeño (including some very tiny ones), a lot of Aji Cereo and a bunch of Chocolate ones.
I’ll have to start thinking what to do with them. I can’t turn all of them into hot sauce, I just don’t have enough storage. Maybe dry them like I did last year? Suggestions welcome!
~~ Ink well ~~
Took about 2 months, but they finally made it: 2 beautifully marbled fountain pens. They scatter light in an amazing way, a phenomenon called ‘chatoyancy‘.
The blue one is a Bayard 737 and the other one I’m not sure. It’s only marked with ‘doajen 2’ on the cap but as far as I’ve been able to find, that’s not a brand. Might be a model or other type of personalisation. Origins most likely Serbian (as that’s where I bought it from). They’re also the smallest pens I have in the collection so far.
The ink flow isn’t up to my liking so I’m going to try and fix that. I’m a bit reluctant to tinker with feeds or nibs on vintage pens but otherwise they’re just going to go to waste anyway. And it’s a good learning experience.
If all goes well, I’ll probably sell on the greenish one.
~~ Creation ~~
Besides writing the Transmissions, I’ve been working on a couple projects but there is very little progress. You know how it is, time and energy are scarce commodities.
In the meantime, here’s a post-it for the current mood:
~~ Writing ~~
Can you believe this has been going for 7 months? The Transmissions from the past month start here (just keep hitting the ‘next’ link to read more of them):
I don’t know how much longer I’ll keep writing them. Sometimes I think we’re getting close to an ending but I still enjoy writing these odd adventures.
~~ Reading ~~
If you like sci-fi or would like to try some that isn’t ‘old white men’s space opera‘ stuff, I always enjoy getting the science fiction Storybundles.
But before I start reading this latest one, I’ll have to finish the ‘Best of 2019’ sci-fi bundle I have laying around and I’ve also got a second-hand copy of The Dark Tower: Volume I on its way. Never read any Stephen King but seems like a cool series.
With more vacation time coming up in August, I’m tempted to tell myself I’ll get through this AND the creative projects but that’s probably not a good idea.
I’ll probably pick 2 things: read The Dark Tower and start drawing a small-ish comic project that I just scripted.
~~ Final notes ~~
I’m still working from home (still full-time regimen, so no steps back as of yet) with nice weather (bit hot at times). I’m looking forward to having 2 whole weeks of vacation, even though it’s mostly at-home. The GF and I might take a few days to go off and ride some bikes and enjoy nature, we’ll see how it goes with all the local lock-downs popping up.
Hope you’re all safe and not going through an existential crisis. Or if you are, you’re finding some time to chill out for a bit. Nobody’s any good when stressed-out and high-strung all the time.
Have a good month, see you in the next one!
