Gameboy Camera color variants

The collection (at time of writing) of Gameboy camera color variants. They’re all the non-limited editions that are out there. The only one that’s somewhat exceptional, is the transparent violet one. This was a Japanese exclusive. So if I want, I could collect the other Japanese versions of the base colors (blue, green, yellow and red) to be absolutely complete. I tried to match them with appropriately colored Gameboy models. I’m thinking of replacing the shell of the GBA SP with a blue one at some point.

All the Gameboys featured here have had their screens replaced with IPS displays, so they are actually usable in less than ideal light conditions. All except the SP, that one already had a backlit screen (it’s an AGS-101).
The yellow and green ones are in their original shells, the rest have 3rd party replacements. The green one does have replacement buttons (black instead of the dark purple/grey originals). It just looks better this way. I might do the same with the yellow one but haven’t found any that look and feel as good as the original ones. Buttons are a tricky thing to get right.

This is probably about it for Gameboy mods for now, since I’ve spent quite a bit of time (and enough funds) on that the past 4 months. I do have a few models still on my list but they aren’t really worth the cash people ask for them.
A Gameboy Micro will cost you at least 140 euros for a reasonably looking one and a Gameboy Light often goes for hundreds. An insane amount of money for a piece of second-hand electronics that was already, literally, out of date when launched.
